SIMON LILLINGTON Profile of SIMON LILLINGTON
CALL 1981

Simon Lillington was called to the Bar in 1981 and initially pursued an academic career lecturing Company, Partnership and Commercial law at the University in Cyprus from 1981-1984. On his return to the UK Simon took his LLM at University College London in Shipping and Company law and then joined the Bournemouth University in 1985 where he was appointed Director of Studies, initially for the Business Studies degree and then for the Business Law degree.

In 1987 Simon took a sabbatical from the University for 6 months and spent that time at the Shipping Bar at 4 Essex Court in the Temple enjoying a very small brief in the Inquiry into the sinking of the Herald of Free Enterprise and at the same time commenced his research at Southampton University into the maritime law of piracy. Simon then accepted an offer of a tenancy at 10 Gray's Inn Square and thereafter combined his academic work at the University with his research and work as a barrister until leaving the University in 1992 to concentrate solely on his practice.

Simon joined 18 Carlton Crescent in 2000 having previously practiced from Baroness Scotland QC's chambers at 1 Gray's Inn Square where he was Treasurer until the merger between that set and Gray's Inn Chambers to form Renaissance Chambers. Simon retains an Associate Tenancy at Renaissance Chambers in Gray's Inn.

Simon's principle areas of practice are now matrimonial finance, personal injury, professional negligence, human rights law and general civil disputes.
